Pat Cox and Laura Tsolas – May 2026 Winners
Introducing Our First 2026 Brox Safety Champions: Pat Cox & Laura Tsolas
We are pleased to announce the very first winners of the Brox Monthly Safety Champion Award for the 2026 season.
Please join us in congratulating Pat Cox (Dracut Quarry) and Laura Tsolas (Dracut Scale), our May 2026 Brox Safety Champions! Not only are these two the first winners of the 2026 season, but they are also the first duo to share the title as monthly champions.
So why were Pat and Laura both nominated?
This spring brought some unusually warm weather early on. On one of the first sunny, 75-degree days, the Dracut location saw a massive increase in truck traffic. Within minutes, the entrance to the site became completely gridlocked. No vehicles could enter or exit. Trucks were stuck on the scale, blocked in on both ends, and drivers began stepping out of their trucks, frustrated. It was a situation that was not going to fix itself.
Luckily, Laura and Pat were both working that day. Laura recognized that an incident was becoming inevitable with the trucks gridlocked the way they were, and she called Pat for help. Within minutes, Pat arrived at the scale. He kept everyone in their trucks, quickly redirected customers, and created a temporary staging area for trucks waiting on material. This relieved the jam from the gate all the way into the site, allowed drivers to move smoothly again, and kept a clear path open for any emergency vehicles that might have needed it.
Laura nominated Pat for the Brox Safety Champion Award for his quick thinking and decisive action. After reviewing her submission, Brox management decided to nominate Laura as a Co-Champion as well.
Laura demonstrated a true understanding of the principle “if you see something, say something.” It is easy to look the other way, or to write off a situation as “that’s just how it gets sometimes.” We want to recognize Laura not only for identifying the hazard, but for taking the initiative to find a solution before something happened. And we want to recognize Pat for his prompt response and swift action in addressing the concern before it became an incident.
Together, Laura and Pat showed the kind of teamwork and awareness that keeps our sites safe. Congratulations to both of them!
